Scope of Responsibility

The Product Marketing Manager – Newborn Screening is responsible for the company’s Newborn Screening business inclusive of lifecycle management, product development and supporting the management of business performance.  This individual will plan, develop and be held accountable for the implementation and evaluation of all marketing and tactical/strategic activities associated with these products and service portfolio.  The scope of decision-making has a great bearing on sales, profits and market share in all markets, and therefore has both long and short-term effects.  The incumbent acts as the motivating "Champion" to ensure new and in-line products are continuously managed to be state-of-the-art and profitable and that they meet the quality, performance and service requirements of the competitive environment.  As such, he/she interacts intensively with R&D, QA, Sales, Manufacturing, Financial and Legal Functions.  The incumbent will have frequent contact with key market leaders, and will travel as required to support the commercial needs.   The position ensures effective management of products worldwide from market analysis, product development, launch, through modifications, to eventual life cycle retirement. Global strategic marketing responsibility for company's Newborn Screening (NBS) business inclusive of lifecycle management, product development and supporting the management of business performance.  Plan, develop and be held accountable for the implementation and evaluation of all marketing and tactical/strategic activities associated with these products and service portfolio. Participate in Product Development meetings as needed and assist with commercialization activities for new products. Manage interaction between R&D team(s), Technical Operations, Manufacturing, Partners and Sales to launch new products.  Represent the voice of customer.  Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and launch plan to ensure the successful positioning and commercialization of current and future instrumentation, ability to adapt program as market advances.   Ability to message to the commercial teams and customers. Monitor current and future lab trends, e.g., competitive activity, partner developments, so that appropriate direction can be provided to the sales force and/or management. Lead activities in support of gathering such information, e.g., the Competitive Intelligence. Work closely with the partner product marketing functions to involve them in the product development process. Provide support as needed to these partners to ensure a synergistic launch of the new instrument, software and partner reagent content.  Develop and expand portfolio opportunities in key market segments from conception and requirements definition through commercialization.  Heavy involvement with R & D, manufacturing, business development – ability to drive internal processes and external partners to expedite effective commercialization in relevant markets.  Interfacing effectively with all company departments to ensure support functions are aware of and serving partners/customers needs.  Implementing processes for identifying current and emerging product needs and estimating market development potential.  Establishing and implementing on-going programs to analyze competitive landscape and pricing for each market segment and product.

 

Qualifications

  • B.S. in business or life sciences.  MBA in marketing is strongly preferred.

  • Mandatory 5+ years of previous experience in the Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics and/or Life Science Research market involved with FDA submissions.  Experience in the newborn screening market is preferred. Must understand the FDA submission process and the associated implications involved. 

  • Mandatory  3+ years of previous experience with one or more successful product launches in a broad capacity, including areas such as portfolio planning, lifecycle management, communication plans, market research, segmentation & analytics, new product launches and corresponding collateral materials, development of product from concept/identified need through commercialization.  Experience with international business/global product launches preferred.

  • Must have the ability to segment markets and customers and previous successful record of achievement in developing marketing and sales strategies to optimize existing product market penetration, introduce new products and capitalize on opportunities.

  • Mandatory Comfortable in a large and/or high-level audience in both presenting and handling questions (e.g., executive presence).
  • Prior extensive experience in Marketing/Business Plan development & execution, distribution channels, planning, forecasting, monitoring market share and customer satisfaction and measurement against P&L goals
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively in a matrix environment.

  • Mandatory experience in classical life science and/or diagnostic marketing, preferably with strong experience developing customer and product requirements and development teams.

  • Mandatory experience to manage multiple projects.  Key skill sets required are diplomacy, project management, and negotiation expertise.  Ability to drive project through all hurdles.

  • Demonstrated track record of success in translating a concept or new product to a successful marketing and sales campaign that meets sales targets.

  • Experience working with a quality-systems environment and development of products under design control.

  • A blend of entrepreneurial and  large company experience;  someone who has previously established and implemented effective marketing programs for a rapidly expanding business;  preference for Newborn Screening experience.

  • Self-starter, enthusiastic and strategic thinker with a bias for action and is hands-on and goal-oriented.

 

 Compensation

  • Base Target -            $80 - $105K

  • Bonus Target –         10% of base at plan – annual payout

  • Relocation -              Yes
